good and bad news...

This is what I wore to another missionary farewell. There was a lot of missionaries
leaving and it was a packed house. It's sad to see them go.
Bluenotes? T-shirt/ H&M Scarf/ Thrifted dress/ Thrifted belt/ Joe Fresh Mocassins

So I have good and bad news. I'll go with the bad news first since that's what I usually prefer...

The bad news is my sister, the photographer who has taken all of my blog photos thus far lives in a different city than me. So you will notice that my blog photos aren't as good of quality as before. I'll have to find another family member to take my photos or buy a tripod. By the way, my brother took these photos...thanks bro :)

The good news is my family got a new digital camera! It's not as fancy as my sister's cam, but it works! I'm excited! And I've been playing with the different features, like this toy camera effect. Also I have a sister-in-law that does photography, so she'll be able to help me out sometimes.

Thanks so much Sophia for taking my photos and for helping a sista out. You did an amazing job. Love ya girl.

my amazing weekend

My family and I took a roadtrip down to Utah for the Semi-Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the beginning of this month. This is a time where we can listen to our prophet and other inspired leaders of the church, which is broadcasted worldwide. I LOVE conference! It's definitely one of my favorite times of the year. I am so grateful for their uplifting and inspiring messages. It always gives me a huge boost and I recieve answers to my questions. This was also my first time to attend conference live at the conference center in Salt Lake City, Utah. It has always been my dream to go...and it finally came true! It was an amazing experience and it was so neat to see thousands of people gathered together for this special occasion. Walking around temple square was a heavenly peaceful feeling and it is an experience that I recommend to everyone.

Visit here to listen/watch/read the addresses given in General Conference.

I went to my Canada Toronto East Mission Reunion and it was SO good to see everyone! Another sister and I did an ancient hawaiian dance for the talent show we had. It was my dream come true...to be an island girl and do hula. So fun. Thank you President and Sister Eyre for an amazing reunion. You're the greatest. Love you all!

guest blogger swap

Hello friends! This is my first ever guest post...or should I say guest swap! I'm so excited :) This is my friend Kat from Kitsch by Kat, which I met through the blogging scene and is a fellow mormon fashion blogger. She is one stylish mom who knows all about beauty and style. Check out her lovely blog here. {also featuring my guest post)

NAME: Katrina Kirk (aka Mama Kat)
AGE: 32
HOMETOWN: I grew up in snowy Salt Lake City Utah and moved to sunny Southern California to stay.
BLOG: Kitsch by Kat
BLOGGING SINCE: a little more than a year.

S:  Why did you initially decide to start a blog?
K:  I started a blog because I love hair, makeup, and fashion.  I work as a Hairstylist, makeup artist, and stylist so I needed somewhere for clients to go to see my work.  My blog has evolved organically into what it is today.  When I added "mom" to my list of roles as a woman I found that it is easy to slip into the everyday of caring for everyone but yourself.  My blog is for every mommy to help boost her spirits, find new and easy ideas to perk up their look, and make fashion fun and accessible.
S:  Any advice for anyone who wants to start her/his own blog?
K:  Be authentic.  Be vunerable.  Use original content.  Be ready to work at it.

Kat's 12 day hair challenge...so fun

S:  How would you describe your style?
K: My style ..... anything I can wear with RED nail polish!  Every woman has her "thing" that puts a little swagger in her step, mine is RED nail polish.  When I put on my Essie 5th Avenue I dare to wear anything.  It makes me feel special.  When I shop and I'm trying to decide if something needs a home in my closet I ask myself, "Can I wear this with my RED nails?"  If so, it's special and it's ME.  I think when you buy things you love they will always work with what you've got.

S:  What beauty product can you not live without?
K:  Hair - Morraccan Oil
Skin - HEMP lotion in Pomegranite
Face - Olay Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir
Makeup - Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, MAC eyeshadow and pigments, L'Oreal Lipgloss in Watermelon crush

Thanks Kat! It was fun 'swapping' for the day!

It is time to embrace the fall. This is what I wore to an Institute harvest activity. We had a bake-off, made caramel apples, a pie eating contest and played games. Fun times were had by all.

halloween

Halloween is just around the corner and I'm excited to dress up! What are you all dressing up as this year?

gold watch

I wanted to get a gold watch for a while and I finally found one! It's no Michael Kors, but hey it works for me (as in...it's a lot cheaper. ha).  I found this one at Forever 21 for 23 bones. I love it because it could stand alone and it could also be combined with layers of random bracelets. And the best compliment I've received was after walking out of an Institute of Religion class. This guy ran out after me and said "I just have to say...that's the most blingin' watch I've ever seen." Haha...awesome.

ps. I apologize for lack of fashion/outfit posts. I have been traveling a lot the past couple of weeks and it's been pretty busy. I just got back to my hometown Winnipeg. But I will get some up right away and I will fill you in on my travelling adventures!

everyday i'm shufflin'

 F21 T-shirt/Joe Fresh Jeans/Brown's High Tops/Value Village Chain

We threw a 'Party Rock' dance before me and my sister left for Alberta. I love theme parties and love dressing up! It was a good time and I just LOVE to dance!

ps. We tried learning how to do the shuffle from youtube and it was so funny. It's a pretty difficult dance move and there's more to it than you think. We got so into it that we even broke a picture frame at my friend's house by accident. woopsie! haha...good times.

Happy Thanksgiving!

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."
  ~ Melody Beattie

It's Thanksgiving Day in Canada! I love this holiday not only for the delicious thanksgiving meal and for coming together with family, but because it is a friendly reminder that we should give thanks and cultivate an attitude of gratitude every day. I thank God every day for my loving family and for the gospel in my life. I am grateful for prayer and to know that I have a Heavenly Father that listens and answers my prayers and loves me unconditionally. I am grateful for my Savior, Jesus Christ, for His love and for giving me the strength to overcome anything. I am grateful for good friends that I can always talk to, trust, laugh with, be crazy with, and who respect me for who I am. I am grateful for the scriptures, including the Book of Mormon, for guiding me daily and providing answers to my questions. And I'm grateful for the simple things in life from pillows to hugs to sunshine. Let me tell you... this list can go on forever...

I try to be positive and optimistic in all things. Why focus on the bitter when there is always the sweet? This is a beautiful talk given by President Monson on cultivating an attitude of gratitude. Visit here.

less is more

I believe in being modest.

I saw this on facebook and wanted to share it. I try to dress modestly because it shows respect for myself and for my body as a temple. It's classy, it feels more comfortable, and I think you can definitely still be attractive and stylish. It shows your confidence and creativity with your style. One of the main reasons why I started this blog is to show that you can be modest AND stylish at the same time {Yes, it's possible!}. There is so much variety in the clothes and trends these days. For example, maxi skirts, layering, cardigans, blazers...just to name a few.

"Modest is Hottest"...so true. And yes, a lot of guys find modesty more attractive too. It's so great to see celebrities who are role models and examples of this. I love what Emma has to say - I'm an even bigger fan of hers now. And this girl’s got style...

"I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing. If I do an interview with photographs people desperately want to change me - dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know everyone wants a picture of me in a mini-skirt. But that’s not me. I feel uncomfortable. I’d never go out in a mini-skirt. It’s nothing to do with protecting the Hermione image. I wouldn’t do that. Personally, I don’t actually think it’s even that sexy. What’s sexy about saying, ‘I’m here with my boobs out and a short skirt, have a look at everything I’ve got?’ My idea of sexy is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder." - Emma Watson

Go Emma....Represent! {haha...I know I'm a nerd}
