sunday dress | leather and suede

Photobucket

I wore this outfit to church on Sunday. I got this leather pencil skirt while thrifting at Value Village.  I thought this was a fun, unique piece and I enjoy the suede accent. My sister said this outfit reminds of Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere. I featured this skirt in a video I made {we shall see if I'm brave enough to share it with ya'll}.

and here's a better view of my new cut. I'm actually loving the shorter hair. The way I styled it is kind of funky fresh and makes me look older. I was trying to go for the 60's bob look but didn't quite turn out. oh well...ha. I'm still trying to figure out how to style this do. and I feel lil like Alexa Chung...hehe.

birthday festivities

I celebrated my birthday on Monday. I turned the big two-five! So weird...I still feel very much like a kid. As you can see I got two beautiful cakes for my birthday {no matter how old we are we still have cake}. The purple cake is from my mom, filipino style and the other one my sister made, coconut vanilla pudding cake. So good. I celebrated it twice -- one with friends and one with the family. Birthdays are a great excuse to have get togethers. I might even have a third celebration this week and go to a zumba black light party at the gym. heheh.

So since I haven't shared with you goals for 2012, I'll share with you some of my goals for my 25th year...

1. have a {decent} scripture study everyday
2. keep a daily journal {maybe online}
3. be a workout girl and exercise 5 times a week
4. sleep early/wake early
5. clean sweep my room and maintain it
6. be on time for things...break my late habit
7. open my online shop
8. establish myself - in career and location

...and many others but these are the main ones.

oh and I got my haircut. I've been planning to cut it for a while because I've had long hair for forever and wanted to try going short. My plan is to go gradually shorter and try different styles along the way. Should be fun :)

got my eyebrows did

I think eyebrows make a huge difference and can really shape your face. These eyebrows of mine are not my favorite. They're short, not very thick, the hair grows in different directions and are wispy at the ends {turn down at the ends}. I got my eyebrows done for my friends wedding. I was the MOH so I thought I'd clean it up a bit. One of my friends is from Trinidad and she said that they're expert on eyebrows and took me to get my eyebrows threaded {and she criticized me on my brows -- no offence taken...she's straight up like that} ha.

Lately I've tried going for more of the natural look and I really love thick eyebrows like this girl but I'm not sure if I can pull it off or if it suits me. This was the first time I got threading done and I was scared that I would be left with barely any eyebrows. It did hurt a little bit and it would for those who don't have experience with tweezing and waxing, but it wasn't bad at all and it was really quick. I think it turned out pretty nice...they cleaned it up, shaped and trimmed them. I was surprised my eyebrows could even be tamed like this. And it was $7...not bad.

AFTER

What do you think?
Should I stick with the thick natural brow OR maintain this look and have more of a defined brow?

ps. Another question for ya'll...
Do you know of any drugstore brands for eyebrow wax or good products for filling in eyebrows?

goodbye ombre

F21 Headband / Clothing Exchange Sweater/ F21 Necklace/ Yard Sale Boots/ Zellers Pants

This is what I wore to a church activity. I love the look of an over-sized sweater. We made gingerbread cookies and they were so fun to decorate. So you may have noticed that I chopped off the ends of my hair. I actually did it myself and learned how to cut layers from the handy dandy youtube. ha. My ends got fried from bleaching them for the ombre and it felt like hay. But it's all good...it was fun while it lasted and I'm gradually going to go shorter :)

ps. Guess what?! I was featured on Thriftaholics Weekly! So sweet. Thanks Morgan :)

pss. Here is an awesome post on being confident in your modesty.

gone window shopping

Le Chateau Hat/ Thrifted Jacket/ Thrifted Blouse/ Thrifted  Louis Vuitton purse/ Leggings Mom's Closet/ Thrifted Shoes/ F21 Watch/ Refashioned Necklace

My cousin Joy and I went to the Exchange District, one of the cool places to hit up in Winnipeg. We did some window shopping at the local boutiques, vintage shops, and antique stores. And Joy decided to get a haircut at Academia De Capelli hair school. I often go to hair schools when I get my hair cut because as you've probably guessed...it's cheap and I find this hair school in particular is pretty legit. I also haven't found a hairdresser that I can trust and that is "my hairdresser". One day I hope to find one. Not that I have had a lot of bad haircuts, just that I haven't been exposed to many hairdressers because I don't often cut my hair and go to salons. And I love going with friends to get their haircut. It's fun and exciting to me. If you know me...I'm one to strongly encourage friends to get haircuts. hehe. Afterwards we did some more window shopping in Osbourne Village, another cool place to visit in Winnipeg. I love their cute shops. And we ate at Kawaii Crepes. It such a cute little joint that serves all kinds of savoury and sweet crepes. I love crepes! I ordered the New Mexico crepe. It sure was delish!

guest blogger swap

Hello friends! This is my first ever guest post...or should I say guest swap! I'm so excited :) This is my friend Kat from Kitsch by Kat, which I met through the blogging scene and is a fellow mormon fashion blogger. She is one stylish mom who knows all about beauty and style. Check out her lovely blog here. {also featuring my guest post)

NAME: Katrina Kirk (aka Mama Kat)
AGE: 32
HOMETOWN: I grew up in snowy Salt Lake City Utah and moved to sunny Southern California to stay.
BLOG: Kitsch by Kat
BLOGGING SINCE: a little more than a year.

S:  Why did you initially decide to start a blog?
K:  I started a blog because I love hair, makeup, and fashion.  I work as a Hairstylist, makeup artist, and stylist so I needed somewhere for clients to go to see my work.  My blog has evolved organically into what it is today.  When I added "mom" to my list of roles as a woman I found that it is easy to slip into the everyday of caring for everyone but yourself.  My blog is for every mommy to help boost her spirits, find new and easy ideas to perk up their look, and make fashion fun and accessible.
S:  Any advice for anyone who wants to start her/his own blog?
K:  Be authentic.  Be vunerable.  Use original content.  Be ready to work at it.

Kat's 12 day hair challenge...so fun

S:  How would you describe your style?
K: My style ..... anything I can wear with RED nail polish!  Every woman has her "thing" that puts a little swagger in her step, mine is RED nail polish.  When I put on my Essie 5th Avenue I dare to wear anything.  It makes me feel special.  When I shop and I'm trying to decide if something needs a home in my closet I ask myself, "Can I wear this with my RED nails?"  If so, it's special and it's ME.  I think when you buy things you love they will always work with what you've got.

S:  What beauty product can you not live without?
K:  Hair - Morraccan Oil
Skin - HEMP lotion in Pomegranite
Face - Olay Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir
Makeup - Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, MAC eyeshadow and pigments, L'Oreal Lipgloss in Watermelon crush

Thanks Kat! It was fun 'swapping' for the day!

do the ombre!

                                                                                                               Alexa Chung
Rumi Neely from fashiontoast

Hey friends!

Guess what?! I FINALLY got my hurr did. I did the ombre (faded hair color), celebrity trend of 2011. I gotta admit, the first time I heard of this trend I was thinking, "That's kinda weird". But what can I say...it eventually grew on me. I know I'm way behind on the trend but that's okay...I don't always follow timelines or current trends. ha

So I did it! I dyed my hair for the first time by myself. Scary! I never really dyed my hair and I am too cheap to do it professionally. So this was a pretty big deal for me. But I wasn't too worried because I figured I could always dye it back or cut off the ends if it's messed up. And I had good training from my trustee youtube friends like this one here. hehe. And I don't remember the last time I got a haircut (probably over 6 months...I know, pretty bad huh?), so I don't care about damaging my already dead ends.

In order to get this effect bleaching is the only way to go. I didn't want to go too drastic and bleach blonde, so I stuck with more subtle shades that blend better with my jet-black hair. Hmm...I don't know...maybe I'll do it again and go lighter. heh heh. But I'm happy with the results and happy to have a change. Anyways, enough of my ramblings...

So here it is...

What do ya'll think? Should I go lighter?
