Last year I found this cocoon coat at the thrift store and almost fell in love. I was searching for a coat just like this but I say 'almost' because I wasn't too keen on the color. I had something else in mind. I decided to make the purchase anyway because it was such a good deal and I loved the fit of it. Now it has grown on me and I've come to love it! I'm so glad I didn't give up this treasure and it so happens to be an 'in' color right now, which is always a plus. Thrifted treasure hunting seriously is my favorite. I could totally do it for a living! It's exciting and you're always bound to find something unique, cool, interesting.

I also jumped on the 'wear sporty sneakers with chic outfits' bandwagon and finally got a classic black pair of free runs. They are comfortable (of course) and go with pretty much anything in my books. I'm excited to wear them out. The sporty chic trend is a current obsession for me and I think it will be for a while.

On another note, my other new favorite accessory is this gold necklace that my sister got for me for Christmas. She got it from Oak and Fort. Since moving to Edmonton, it's become one of my favorite stores and it's surprisingly affordable. I love all of their jewelry pieces and admire their delicacy and simplicity. They're definitely something you can wear with anything and have become my go-to accessories.

Have you had this too where you find something you didn't quite like at first but have come to love?
I'd love to hear your stories and how you made it work!

winter wonderland

photos by Sophia Cardona

Ahoy from Canada! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was chill, spent mostly with my sister. This was our first Christmas away from home. We got invited to our friends’ for dinner and it was so nice to be included in their family festivities. And thanks to facetime we were still able to see all of our cute nieces and nephews and be with our family in a way.
It's so funny sometimes trying to take photos as a blogger because it's so cold outside. My sister and I tried taking photos yesterday but it was way too cold. You know when you have a shower and the water is so cold that you have to catch your breath? That's how I felt, haha. But we braved the cold and took photos anyway - the lighting is always best outside! Speaking of winter weather, my current obsession is cocoon coats. I love baggy silhouettes. It's so effortless and cool. Also, I'm loving a touch of sporty spice in my outfits. I didn't think I was much of a trendy person but I'm loving this one. I guess comfort is my game.

I'm teaching a zumba class this morning for church. I'm a little rusty but it should be fun.Wish me luck! Also, I'm planning to watch Catching Fire. It's always fun to see a film in the theaters once in a while.

Ps. Aren't sweater dresses the best?! I love'em...so comfy and easy to wear :)

So here's another round of attempted selfies. I found a decent spot to take photos, so you will be seeing more of me. I love the song by Jill Scott "Golden". She repeats the phrase "Living my life like it's golden". I hope I can repeat that to myself daily and find joy in the small and simple things in life. Very wise words. Life can be repetitive, dull, or hard but I believe attitude makes a huge difference and living with gratitude in your heart. One thing I've started is a gratitude journal. Where I try and write one or more things about what I'm grateful for that day. This really does help you have a better perspective in life and makes me happy. And it may surprise you how many blessings you do have. You should start one too and let me know how it goes!

sporty spice and everything nice

hat: stussy from uo
dress: urban behavior
shoes: toms

Wow that was quite the prolonged hibernation on my part. Sorry bout that folks! Don't worry I'm still alive and kickin' and I think of my blog often. I know I always say this but it's been tough for me to take photos and feel motivated to do outfit posts without someone to help me take photos. My sister, Sophia and I were able to reunite and do a couple of shoots. It was so fun shooting with her again. She is so talented. Please check out her photography blog here. And it's always fun for me to pretend being a model. heh heh. We are going to live in the same city soon and I'm super excited! And my blog will be in full mode...until then you'll have to put up with my attempted selfies. ha.

I was able to visit home for a week and it was wonderful, simply put. It was so nice to be home with the family and to catch up with friends. It was too short of a visit, but it was worth it. I was able to attend my sister's photography gallery, visit my lola {grandma}, hang out with my besties, do some shoots, celebrate my mom's birthday, eat a lot of good food, and spend time with my sister and my cute niece and nephew! I miss them tons! That's one of the tough things about living away from home is that I don't get to be with them and they're growing up so fast in my absence. What a blessing skype is. For reals.

On a fashion note: I'm loving the 'sporty' mixed with class look these days. I think it's super cool and it's comfy! I'm still on the lookout for some snapbacks and would love another pair of Nike Free runs. I love how you can just wear a fancy outfit with a pair of tennis shoes and not be signified as tacky. I have always (mostly) dressed for comfort and I'm glad fashion is becoming more of my friend and becoming comfort friendly. Just my cup of tea :)

What do you think of the sporty trend? Tacky or cool?

I'm in love with my super oversized shrug. It may make me look like a hobbit but I don't care. It's the comfiest thing and it's like secretly wearing a blanket all day. hehe. Sweaters are my favorite. I definitely dress for style AND comfort. How bout you? Do you dress for style or comfort...or both?

crazy cat lady

photos by my cousin joy

I never thought I'd wear leopard but now I love it and now I have a full on leopard coat! well my big inspiration is from the lovely alexa chung and christina caradona, a couple of my fav style muses. I found this coat on sale at forever 21 and I couldn't pass it up! this is my take on fancy grunge. or as others my label it "hipster" (someone actually called me that when I was shopping wearing this ha)...whatever that means. and for those who are gasping at my american apparel purchase, they were greatly discounted when I purchased them. not going to lie...it is hard for me to sport this coat because I do feel crazy and don't like drawing attention to myself but none the less I believe in individuality, being creative, not caring what people think, and being confident in just being yourself. and if I was living in europe or new york this would be normal and no one would take a second look (in my dreams). ha. So be you folks and work it ;)
